Anker Astro E4 External Battery Charger Power Bank

Anker Astro E4 External Battery Charger Power Bank

If you can’t imagine life without your electronics, you know how important it is to keep those batteries charged up. Thankfully, external batteries enable us to charge up anytime, even while on the go. Turn to the Anker Astro E4 to keep your gadgets and gizmos powered up, prolonging the life of your electronic devices’ batteries along with the length of time you can go about your life without worrying about finding an outlet.

With two high speed ports to keep you connected while you re-charge, the Anker Astro E4 external battery has 13,000mAh capacity with 5v/2A output and 5v/2A input. Weighing just 10.8 oz. and measuring 4.9 x 3.0 x 0.9in, this device is easy to carry with you anywhere you go. It comes with connective adapters to make sure you can use it with most devices.

You know only too well the frustration of having the battery on your cell phone waste away before your eyes as you rush to that meeting with no time to plug in, or the frantic search for a free outlet at the coffee shop before your laptop dies and you miss the deadline on an assignment. With the Astro E4 battery backup handy, you won’t need to worry about missing that important phone call or getting lost in the middle of nowhere with no GPS. No need to wait for one device to finish charging before juicing up the next, as this device is a multi-tasker that can power up your phone along with your tablet – and keep you connected to the world while you wait. This device packs in the power – enough to charge up your smartphone three times over, maybe more depending on your phone battery size.

Voted best external battery pack by Lifehacker, this powerful, slim, affordable device was the clear favorite in a reader poll. Reviews posted on the Anker website proclaim the Anker Astro E4 to be one of the best tech-related gadgets around, holding plenty of charge – enough for three or four cycles of charging for a Galaxy s4, says one consumer. The built-in flashlight is a nice bonus, as are the extra cables included in the carrying case.

Tips and More

This device is compatible with USB cables other than those included in the packaging. Astro E4 works with new Apple iPhones (5s and 5c) but you need to use the cables that came with the phone. You can charge two devices simultaneously but need to keep in mind that the total output current won’t exceed 3A. If you have trouble using the Astro E4 to charge your electronic device, check that all connections are secure and that the cables are functioning properly. Also, check to ensure that the E4’s voltage is compatible to your electronic device by referring to the instruction manual, product label or adapter.

The Astro E4 cannot charge Samsung or Asus tablets. Again, it works iPhone 5s and 5c but Apple connector is not included; you need to use the one that came with your phone.

RAVPower Lipstick Charger 3000mAh External Battery Charger Review

Wait, why would I need to charge my lipstick?

There’s probably no doubt that a portable charger would be a great addition to your many devices, but you might wonder which is the best portable charger for your money.  I know I did! My parents saw a lipstick charger at the Verizon store, and thought about buying it but it was $40+!  I told them not to worry, I’d get them lipstick chargers online for cheap. Then I realized I know nothing about lipstick chargers, and I’d better figure it out quick. Everyone loves to save money, but nobody likes to find out the hard way their inexpensive item is really just cheap… or worthless.  So, I did some searching and found cute little chargers online that were about $14 each. I bought two and they arrived in about 3 weeks.  One of the chargers and one of the cords was dead on arrival. I contacted the seller, exchanged several messages, only to be told I had waited too long to file a complaint. I’d filed literally within a few days! Oh, “sorry, I forgot,” he said.  To make a long story short, he wanted me to send the charger back at my expense. It wasn’t my fault it arrived dead. Finally he said I could send a picture of it plugged in and not functioning. Only then, and over a month later, did he refund my money.  The ones I bought were 2200 mAh and besides one completely not working, the lower battery capacity means you can only get one full charge from it.  Disappointing.

So, when I learned about RAVPower and they offered to send each GimmieGirl one to try out, in our choice of colors, I was excited!  We have put together the finer points about this lovely gem of a charger that should answer any questions you may have. But, if you still have more let us know!

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack Power Bank

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack Power Bank

RAVPower® Luster 3000mAh External Battery Pack Portable Charger Lipstick-Sized (Ultra Bright Flashlight with High/Low/Strobe Modes) for iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, iPod; Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Note3, Note2; Nexus 5, Nexus 4; Motorola Razr Maxx, HTC ONE, most Smartphones and other USB-charged devices - Price $19.99 on Amazon (list price $49.99)

Hear it from the GimmieGirls:

DebbieTechnologically speaking, the RAVPower Luster Lipstick charger has a 3000 mAh battery capacity. What does that mean? Let’s start with what a mAh is first. A milliamps hour or mAh is a measurement of energy current that a battery can discharge in one hour. This is important to know because it tells us the strength of a battery: the bigger the mAh, the more energy capacity. Here is an analogy, think of the mAh as the size of a car’s gas tank. The bigger the gas tank in similar cars, the more gas it will hold and the longer it will run. The higher the mAh means longer run time. So, say compare a 3000 mAh battery in this charger to a 2000 mAh battery; the higher capacity battery (bigger number) will last longer andcharge devices faster.

Just how much juice can it give your cell phone? Using the iPhone 5 as an example, whose battery capacity is 1440 mAh, the RAVPower Luster portable charger will deliver just over 2 full charges to the iPhone 5 before the RAVPower needs to be recharged (keep in mind using the included flashlight will also drain the RAVPower’s battery). Here’s the math: 1440 + 1440 = 1880, which is the amount needed to charge an iPhone 5 twice.  Actually, 1440 goes into 3000 (the capacity of the charger) 2.08 times, which means you probably could use the flashlight a little and still get two full charges. Check your phone’s battery capacity to see how many charges you could get!

TIP: To take advantage of the RAVPower’s quick charging capabilities, don’t use your phone while it charges. If your phone’s battery gets to the red zone while shopping, plug it into your portable charger and throw it in your purse. By the time you are done with your errand, your phone should be good to go!

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the RAVPower Luster portable charger. It’s quick, compact and inexpensive; three things I value the most in tech gadgets!

TrishPractically speaking, I take my iPhone everywhere I go. I use my iPhone as a phone obviously, as a radio to play music, as a map, as my shopping list, as a GPS, as a camera — you name it, that’s my iPhone! There’s nothing worse than being out and about and having my iPhone battery start to die. You never know if there is going to be an emergency and you need your phone to call 911, or reach your family.  Car chargers are great, but you need to be IN your car to use one. It’s very frustrating having to conserve my battery life in case my phone decides to die when I’m not at home. I have 3 kids and 1 on the way. I feel it’s VERY important if I have a phone on me at all times, especially if I’m outside of my home. With my RAVPower Portable Charger, if my phone battery is dying, I plug my phone into the portable charger right inside my purse and continue with whatever I am doing! No more worrying about my phone dying while I’m out running errands with my children!

RAVPower also has a built-in flashlight. This light is extra bright and has 3 different settings:  bright, dim and strobe. I can’t tell you how many times I have needed a flashlight, especially if we arrive home late with the children. Instead of stumbling in the dark to the house, I can pull my charger out and use the flashlight so everyone can see! This would be ideal in emergency situations such as power outages, if it’s dark and you need extra lighting, or to be able to have your phone charged at all times in case you need your phone in an emergency. I think we can all agree having our phones is VERY important when we are away from home! All I can say about this portable charger is that it truly is a life savor, or at least it has been for me so far! I really enjoy the convenience of charging my phone outside of the home and the car, and I enjoy the ease of use. It’s also the most perfect size for us women to stash inside our purses!

Heather: A different kind of lifesaver… A few months ago I stopped smoking with the help of those super popular Vapor eCigs. They are great cause they are portable, but its difficult to keep up with their charge! Once its dead, there is no hitting it! What a pain when you’re out & about! In comes my pretty little pink RAVpower stick! I plug my eCig in for a bit, and I am good to go again!

Alternate uses: The most use I have gotten out of mine so far is from charging up the portable devices my little girl likes to take along for the car rides including the PS Vita and Tablet, it has helped bring them back to life (and saved my sanity!!)

I love the fact that its really light weight. I keep it in one of the side compartments of my purse for on the go (it comes with a pocket clip for the guys). Its rather attractive too. They have 5 sleek and vibrant colors to choose from, so its easy to find something that fits you. I picked their fun hot pink color! I absolutely love the fact that it comes with an attached flashlight! It actually has 3 different settings High, Low, and Strobe (think unexpected emergencies).

In all, this is a great little affordable dual purpose gadget that is guaranteed to save the day!

Reylin:  First off, iPhone users, you’ll notice that the portable charger comes with a USB cable that can not be used with iPhones, but do not lose it.  It’s for charging the RAVPower charger. When charging your phone, you’ll need to plug your own iPhone charge cord’s USB end into the portable charger. If you do not have an iPhone, the USB that it comes with is compatible with most HTC, Samsung, Google, and Motorola phones.

Now, to get the best use out of this charger you’ll need to make sure the portable charger is fully charged. When I first got the portable charger, I used it right away to see if it would work (which it did, it charged my phone up to 50% before it died), instead of charging it first. I would advise anyone using this to charge it fully before using. There are two lights that indicate charge level:  blue means it’s fully charged and red means it’s not.

The first time I fully charged the RAVPower charger, I left it plugged in overnight. When I did that, it charged my completely dead phone up to 100% with power to spare.  I decided to see how many uses I could get out of it, so I charged my iPod also. It charged it up to 60% before it died. After doing that, I plugged the portable battery in and timed how long it took for the light to turn from red to blue (dead to fully charged), and it took about 4 and a half hours to recharge the RAVPower charger. So, no need to leave it plugged in overnight to charge.

It took a little under 2 hours to fully charge my iPhone

A couple of small issues I had was I noticed after charging my phone up to 40%, the portable charger felt a bit warm. Also, the flash light randomly turned on. This wasn’t a big issue at all, but I couldn’t figure out why.

Overall I think this is perfect for days when I’m gone all day. It takes 4 hours to fully charge, but takes a little under 2 hours to fully charge my phone. AND I can get two charges out of it, which is more than enough for me if I’m gone all day.  All I have to do is make sure this is in my bag, and I never have to worry about my phone dying on me while I’m not home. Just remember to make sure the battery is fully charged (remember the light will be blue). Otherwise, you may not get a full charge on your phone.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever needed your phone in a desperate situation (checking someone’s FB status, stalking a HauteLook sale, texting, etc.) and have it completely die on you. Mine has actually gone from 20% to 1% in two minutes. I don’t even know how that’s possible. Needless to say, it leaves a girl feeling pretty naked without an active phone. I mean, how else are you going to look busy texting when someone you don’t like approaches you?

Say no more. RavPower has you covered! A few months ago, I was sent this pretty pink power bank charger to try out. All you have to do is connect your phone to the power bank (with your own USB charger cord, of course) and wa-la! It’ll charge away. I’ve always wanted one to stick in my purse and have just in case I’m ever in the above situation.

Straight out of the box, the  power bank charged my phone about 30% and then died out on me. No biggie. For straight out of the box, that’s pretty awesome. After charging the charger itself, it gave my phone a full charge and about 40% the next time I had to charge it.

What I really liked about this power bank (beside the fact that it’s hot pink and saves my phone from it’s death bed) is that it has an incredibly bright (at least that’s what my fiance told me when I accidentally flashed it in his face) LED flashlight built into it with three different settings: low/high beam and disco party strobe. Another cool thing about it is that it has an automatic on/off button. Once you uplug your phone from it, it turns off, saving your battery juice for next time.

To charge the charger itself is easy (well, now it is). I had no clue how to charge it and for awhile, thought it was broken. That is until I read the manual and saw that it’s supposed to come with a USB to Micro USB charger that you can connect to a USB port to charge. Mine didn’t come with one. It happens and was no worries for me, I just ended up using my fiance’s Galaxy Note2 charger.
This power bank is compatible with:
iPhone 5S 5C 5 4S 4,iPod (please use the original 8Pin / 30Pin Cable from Apple)
-1 x Micro USB Connector:
HTC: One X, S, V/Sensation XE XL/EVO 4G/Radar 4G/Inspire 4G/ ThunderBolt
Samsung: Galaxy S4/S3/Note 3/Note 2/S2 /Nexus/Galaxy Note/Focus S/Infuse
Google: Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Google glass
Motorola: Droid Razr, Bionic/Atrix 2/riumph
- Other cell phone, MP3, MP4, digital camera, and other with DC 5V input
Overall, I actually love this. I can’t even count how many times this has come in handy while out. Having this makes me feel a little bit safer about being out at night because I know if my phone dies, I’ll have a bright flashlight and extra charge in my purse.

Recharge your dead phone on the go! Recharge your phone anywhere – no access to AC wall chargers or car chargers needed. Take it with you when you travel and survive those long flights and road trips with the peace of mind that your phone or tablet battery will last the whole way. Best of all, this external charger is small enough to fit into your pocket.

Anker Astro 6000 Charging Capabilities

Connect your device to the charger and  with the proper cable and the battery pack charging starts automatically.

The “6000″ refers to how many mAh or “milli-ampere-hours” the battery contains. In practice, the typical capacity is about 30% less than the advertised mAh.

You can find out how many mAh your phone or tablet battery has and compare it to the capacity of a charger to figure out roughly how many charges you should be able to get from the battery pack. For example, an iPhone 5 has a 1,440 mAh battery. Some charge is “lost” in the charging process as heat, voltage conversion, powering the internal electronics of the battery itself (this is normal). The Anker Astro operates at about 83% efficiency, which is considered excellent (most battery chargers operate around 70% efficiency). In practice, the Anker Astro offers about 4700 mAh of battery juice for your phone.

With 4,700 mAh actually available to your phone, the Anker Astro 6000 could recharge a dead iPhone 5 about three times. The Nexus 4, with its 2,100 mAh battery, could get just over two full charges out of the Anker Astro 6000.

Charging Compatibility

Here’s a few common smartphones and how many charges they should be able to get out of the Anker Astro:

  • Galaxy S5 (2,800 mAh): almost 2 full recharges
  • HTC One M8 (2,600 mAh): almost 2 full recharges
  • iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 5C (1,432 – 1,570 mAh): about 3 recharges
  • iPad 2 (6,944 mAh): about 70% of a full recharge
  • iPad 3 (11,560 mAh): about 40% of a full recharge
  • iPad mini (6,470 mAh): about 70% of a full recharge
  • Kindle Fire (8,400 mAh): about 55% of a full recharge
  • Nexus 4 (2,100 mAh): about 2 full recharges
  • Sony Experia C (2,390 mAh): about 2 full recharges

Most full-size tablets have around 11,000 mAh battery capacity – nearly twice what the Anker offers. The Anker Astro is too small to be of much use if you need to charge a tablet on the go.

We love the Anker Astro’s smart USB port with PowerIQ technology to detect your device’s charging capability and adjust to it. This feature enables the Anker Astro to work with a huge variety of devices, even those purchased overseas.

Charging Speed

The Anker battery itself takes about 6 hours to charge from empty to full if you charge it from an AC wall charger (AC wall charger not included – here’s a link to our favorite wall charger on Charging via USB 2.0 is much slower – about 11-12 hours.

Your phone or tablet’s charge speed is determined in part by the cable you’re using to charge it.

Anker Astro 6000 Physical Design

  • Slim design
  • LED capacity indicator
  • Rugged build
  • Comes in 3 colors
  • Matte paint is resistant to scratching

LED Capacity Indicator

  • Light ring “animates” as it charges
  • Shake the Anker battery to light up the ring and see how much juice remains

To check the battery pack charge status you have to shake the battery and the LED ring lights up.

For device compatibility, you can’t beat the New Trent iCarrier IMP120D. If you’re using phones or tablets by major manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Sony, etc, you won’t have any compatibility issues.

Bring Your Own Cable

Like nearly all external battery chargers, the Anker Astro assumes you already have a charging cable on hand for your device. As long as your charge cable has a USB plug on one end to plug into the Anker Astro, you’re good to go.

Note: The Anker Astro does not not come with an AC wall adapter! If you’d like to charge this thing from a normal electrical outlet, you’ll need an AC to USB adapter. We recommend the highly-rated and very affordable dual-port New Trent NT90C wall charger.

Anker Astro 6000: What’s in the box? Package includes the Anker external battery, a micro USB charging cable, protective case, and instruction manual.

Overall Value

For less than $30, the Anker Astro 2nd Gen 6000 is a slam dunk. With nearly 1,000 positive Amazon reviews, it’s hard to argue with the utility of a compact external battery for your smartphone.

Anker Astro E5 Portable Charger Review

I recently bought an Anker Astro E5 15000mAh Dual USB Portable Charger Ultra-High Density External Battery. The Astro E5 has been selling for half its original cost on Amazon, so it seemed like a good time to purchase it. For the last month I have been playing with it and testing its ability’s for camping trips and outings I plan on taking this summer, the results pleasantly surprised me.

Anker Astro E5 External Battery Charger Power Bank

Anker Astro E5 External Battery Charger Power Bank

First let’s talk about the design, it’s nothing spectacular but it also isn’t an eye sore. Size wise it is about the size of a Samsung S4 but 2-3x thicker and heavier. The Astro E5 has two USB charging ports a 2 amp and a 1 amp, both ports can charge at the same time. In my testing, I did not check to see if the 2 amp charges at 1 amp when two devices are charging, but it did not matter because it satisfied my expectations while charging two devices. It also has a small LED flashlight built in that puts off a good amount of light.

In using the Astro E5, I immediately noticed some things about it that I never expected. Both the 1 amp USB port and the 2 amp USB port seemed to charge much faster than almost all my wall chargers (I have 8 chargers by the way), and when it did not the ports still kept up with a wall charger. Every other external charger I have ever used was not able to maintain this charge speed. It was completely unexpected; I would have been happy with it taking a few hours to charge. A secondary benefit of theAstro E5 for campers is the built in flashlight. The flashlight is just a LED bulb so it should not put any significant drain on the battery. I have found myself using this novel addition all over the house, from spotting fish hiding in a cave, in my fish tank to using it when I take the dog out to go to the bathroom at night so I do not step on previous land mines he has dropped in the grass.

The fluff features such as charging two devices at once and a flashlight built in, was not the reason I bought the Astro E5. However, now that I have seen how useful these features are I probably won’t buy another device without them. My perspective is that this is an emergency device to keep your phone charged if power goes out or to keep my devices charged while camping. Those so called fluff features are pretty important in the cases I plan to use the Astro E5.

So how does this device stack up when it comes to what I bought it for, charging a device?

It excels; the 15000mah claim is pretty close to spot on. I tested three aspects and tested it with a Samsung Note 2. I was able to keep my phone charged for an entire week off it with moderate use. It was also tested in a low signal area over an eight hour day and still had more than 50% charge left after keeping the phone plugged into it like it was a wall charger all day. To give you an example I lose about 100-300% of my battery a day in this area, and I had music streaming off Spotify all day intensifying the usage. Certain days I can get my phone to start draining while charging if I pull enough juice at this location and the Astro E5 was able to keep my phone at 100% all day. The final test was to not charge the Astro E5 back up till it was completely empty, and only charge the Samsung Note 2 in the off state after its battery completely died. The Samsung Note 2 has a 3100mah battery. I was able to completely charge this battery over four times before Astro E5 died .

In closing, I highly recommend picking up an Anker Astro E5 15000mAh Dual USB Portable Charger Ultra-High Density External Battery. Especially at the 50$ price point 50% cheaper than its entry price of 100$. The Astro E5 is an extremely well made product that lives up to its claims. To be noted I cannot charge my phone seven times as their documentation suggested but I also have a much larger battery in my phone than most phones have. It is a Samsung Note with a behemoth screen!

RAVPower Luster 6000mAh External Battery Pack Review

The RAVPower Luster External Battery Pack is a 6000 mAh smartphone and device charger that connects using USB that includes a handy coiled USB cable and a carry pouch.

RAVPower 6000mAh External Battery Charger Power Bank

RAVPower 6000mAh External Battery Charger Power Bank

Ease of Use, Performance: 5/5
Look & Feel: 5/5
Features: 4/5
How much I enjoy: 5/5

Recommendation: 5/5 Stars

The RAVPower Luster External Battery Pack is a 6000 mAh USB charger with 2.1 amps of power that includes the handy coiled USB cable and a carry pouch. The RAVPower Luster has enough power to charge a smartphone or other mobile device several times with enough amperage to charge higher draw devices like the iPad.

The RAVPower Luster is about 3.67 by 1.61 by .85 inches and has the power button on one side while the connections are on the end. The micro USB connection is for charging your devices while the male USB connection is for charging the external battery pack.

The RAVPower Luster also has an LED light on the end for help in finding your way in the dark that turns on and off using the power button. To charge your devices you simply connect them to the male USB connection and press the power button but you do have to remember to press the power button.

You do need to power the pack on in order to charge your devices and you can use the four blue LED lights under the silver band to tell how much power the pack has. The four blue led lights are not very bright and in full sunlight may be a bit difficult to see but it works well enough for an indicator.

The LED lights do give you some idea of the charge of the external battery pack and the 6000 mAh charge can last for a really long time. According to RAVPower the 6000 mAh Luster will run your iPhone for 15 hours plus 40 hours of extra talk time and an additional 150 hours of music play.

The Luster External Battery Pack also has short circuit, overload and over current protection for a safer device as well as a handy one. I have had the RAVPower Luster for a month and had no problems charging my numerous mobile devices including a Samsung smartphone, Nexus 7 tablet and my BlackBerry Playbook.

The only thing I had any concern with was remembering to press the power button to start charging my device which is common on some of the external battery packs. The RAVPower External Battery Pack is a great pack that has plenty of power to charge your mobile devices several times and is handy in a compact size.

The RAVPower Luster comes in four colors, costs about $30 and is available from Amazon, Newegg and other websites as well as RAVPower. I highly recommend the RAVPower Luster 6000 mAh as a powerful external battery pack that works well and is a very handy size for pocket or briefcase.

To recharge the RAVPower Deluxe, you plug the Micro USB connector into the input port, and either plug into a USB port (like on a computer) or connect to a USB wall charger(preferred).

My RAVPower Deluxe came with 2 coiled USB cables and 4 cable plugs shown here. These plugs (Mini USB, Micro USB, Nokia DC 2.0 and Samsung 30 pin) allow you to connect to many different devices.

Tthe RAVPower Deluxe also has an LED flashlight built in for emergencies. Now you aren’t going to want to depend on this small LED flashlight as your sole emergency source of light, but it works well for its size, and is also nice to use when connecting cables in the dark.

The unit is made of plastic, but seems to be fairly scratch resistant and durable for what it is. I wouldn’t go tossing it down a mountain or anything and expecting it to work, but regular use, including bouncing around in a backpack, hasn’t caused any issues so far.

Since it’s a 14,000 mAh Li-ion battery, the device isn’t small. It’s going to be about twice as thick as your smartphone, and roughly the same height and width depending on your phone. Here’s a photo of the RAVPower Deluxe next to my Motorola RAZR HD MAXX.

According to RAVPower, the Deluxe is compatible with:

  • iPad 4 3 2,iPad Mini, iPhone 5 4S 4,iPod (please use the original 8Pin/30Pin Cable from Apple)
  • 1 x Micro USB Connector:
    • SmartPhones: Samsung/HTC/LG/Motorola/BlackBerry/Nokia/Sony/etc
    • Tablets & eReader: Google Nexus 7/Nexus 10
  • 1 x Samsung 30pin Connector: Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Tab 2,Galaxy Note
  • 1 x Mini USB Connector: some cell phone, MP3, MP4, digital camera, and other with mini USB slot digital devices
  • 1 x Nokia DC 2.0 Connector: Nokia cell phone with DC 2.0 port

I certainly did not test all of these devices, but so far the RAVPower Deluxe has worked with all of the devices I’ve tried, which includes two Motorola smartphones, iPhone 4 and 5 and a Kindle Fire HDX tablet.

RAVPower In Use

I’ve used my RAVPower Deluxe quite a lot of the past few months. My first real experience was using it this year at SHOT Show, where I had a couple different battery backups with me, the largest of which was the RAVPower. Every day at lunch, Dan and I would both plug into the RAVPower Deluxe while we ate to charge our smartphones. We did this three days in a row. Additionally, I used the RAVPower randomly throughout the week, and through all of this use, I didn’t recharge the RAVPower unit. Since SHOT, I’ve used it in the woods, traveling in the car, and I frequently keep it with me as a battery backup should the need arise.

How many times will it charge your device? The answer to that question will depend on many factors, including your device’s battery size and the rate at which the RAVPower is discharged, 1A vs 2A (see Peukert’s Law). Having said that, here are some charging generalizations according to RAVPower: “7-8 charges on your iPhone 5, 4S and 3 charges on your Google Nexus, 86% charges on your iPad 3/4.”

Wrapping Up

Overall I’m very pleased with my RAVPower Deluxe. It has worked flawlessly, charges devices fairly quickly, and has plenty of power for most uses. The only downsides I’ve found so far are the plastic casing (which you should expect at this price point) and the 1A input. Even connected to a wall, at 1A input, it takes several hours to charge the unit.

At the time of writing, you can purchase a RAVPower Deluxe 14000mAh External Battery for around $40, which in my opinion is a pretty good deal. If you’re in the market for a battery backup, or don’t own one yet, take a look at the RAVPower Deluxe.

Featured: Top 10 Best Battery Packs for the HTC One M8

The HTC One M8 has a slightly larger battery than last years model, but still not enough for heavy users. And unfortunately it does have a non-removable battery so you won’t be able to put on an extended battery from the likes of Zero Lemon and others. But thankfully there are plenty of portable battery chargers available that work with just about any Android device, including the new HTC One M8.

RAVPower Element 10,400mAh External Battery Pack

RAVPower’s got a nice external battery pack as well. This is the Element which has a 10,400mAh battery backup inside to charge all your devices. Now it’s not as big as the previous one we listed, but it is about half the price. So we can’t really argue with that, now can we?

RAVPower Element 10400mAh External Battery Pack Portable Charger Power Bank (Dual USB Outputs, Ultra Compact Design), for iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, iPad Air, 4, 3, 2, Mini 2 (Apple adapters not included); Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, S2, Note 3, Note 2; HTC One, EVO, Thunderbolt, Incredible, Droid DNA, Motorola ATRIX, Droid, Moto X, Google Glass, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, LG Optimus, PS Vita, GoPro and More

Powerocks 7800mAh External Battery Pack with Dual-USB ports

Here’s a nice external battery pack from Powerocks. I actually reviewed a few of their battery packs earlier this year. All of which I was very impressed by. This one is a 7800mAh battery pack, which can charge many phones at least once and maybe a second or third time. That all depends on your phone. Like if it’s the DROID Maxx, it probably won’t charge it more than once. This one also has dual-USB ports so you can charge two devices at once. Which is pretty nifty. All this for under $50!

7800mAh External Battery Pack Dual USB ports and Charger for iPad2, iPad, iPhone 4S 4 3Gs 3G, iPod Touch (1G 2G 3G 4G 5G), Motorola Droid, HTC Android Phone, Blackberry, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC flyer, and much more

Anker Astro Slim2 4500mAh Ultra-Compact Portable External Battery Backup Charger

The Anker Astro Slim2 is one of many external battery packs that Anker has available. This one is a pretty slim and compact one that works pretty well. It’s not the largest capacity, but it’ll work to get you through the rest of your day. It works with just about every microUSB device, including Apple products, however you’ll need to supply your own cable for iPhones, iPods, and iPads.

RAVPower 14,000mAh External Battery Pack

Here’s a massive battery pack from RAVPower. You may not want to carry this one everywhere as it is probably pretty heavy. After all it is a 14,000mAh battery pack. Think of it as carrying about 4 of the Galaxy Note 3 batteries with you. Good thing about this is it has 2 USB ports for you to charge your phones, and tablets from.

RAVPower KnightRider 14000mAh External Battery Charger Portable Power Bank Pack for iPhone 5 (Lightning Cable not included), 4S, 4, iPad 4, 3, 2, Mini, iPods; Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, S2, Note 2; HTC One, EVO, Thunderbolt, Incredible, Droid DNA; Motorola ATRIX, Droid; Google Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10; LG Optimus [4 mobile phone connectors]

EC TECHNOLOGY 22,400mAh Portable Battery Pack

This one is actually the biggest capacity external battery pack I’ve seen. This one is a 22,400mAh battery. Which is a little less than double the previous battery pack from PowerGen. This one is pretty slim too. Although, I’m sure it’ll be pretty hefty as well. It also has 4 Smart LEDs which indicate the power left, and it also has a built in flashlight.

EasyAcc 12000mAh Power Bank

This power bank from EasyAcc has about 4 different USB ports, so you can really charge just about everything all at once. It’ll work with just about every microUSB device out there, and it is also fulfilled by Amazon. So you know what that means? Amazon Prime’s free two-day shipping is available.

Tylt Upplant 2

Here’s a pretty small one from Tylt. They actually don’t make a whole lot of external battery packs yet. They mostly make cases with batteries inside for certain phones. But that might change. I actually reviewed this one earlier this year and actually quite liked it. It’s pretty lightweight and it does have a 5200mAh battery inside.

Limeade Blast 15,600mAh Battery Pack

The Limeade Blast is a pretty slim batteyr pack that does come in different sizes. There’s a 6000, 13000, 15600, 18000, and a 24000mAh version of this battery pack. That’s some serious juice right there. This particular one is the 15,600mAh battery pack and it’s on sale for $50. Which isn’t bad at all.

USB External Battery Pack 15600mAh (Black Limeade Blast L156X) Charger with built-in Flashlight for iPhone 5, 4S, 4, iPad Mini, iPods; Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, S2, Note 2; HTC One, EVO, Thunderbolt, Incredible, Droid DNA; Motorola Moto X, ATRIX, Droid; Google Nexus 4 ; LG Optimus

New Trent iCarrier 12000mAh Portable Dual-USB Port External Battery Charger

New Trent is also a pretty familiar company for creating great external battery packs. This one is a 12000mAh battery pack that has two USB ports so you can go ahead and charge two devices at once. Which is a pretty big deal. Now you won’t have to worry about which device should you charge first.

Anker Astro E5 15,000mAh Portable Battery Pack

Here’s my personal favorite, this one’s from Anker. It’s a pretty large battery pack, but it’s a 15,000mAh battery pack so it’ll last you a while. It does have two USB ports so you can also charge a couple of devices at once using this one. There’s also LED lights showing how much juice you’ve got left.

Anker Astro Mini Portable Phone Charger Review

Hi Lovelies,
I hope your weekend was fab. It’s almost Monday and I have no idea where the weekend went. If you own a smart phone be it aBlackberry, Samsung or iPhone, you would understand that having your battery run out when you are on the move is an absolute nightmare. At least for me!! I do so much on my phone and I always take my charger everywhere with me..well until I got the Anker Astro Mini portable charger. Now, having my battery run out is a thing of the past. The Anker Astro Mini basically acts like a power bank to charge your phone and it can be used for a variety of phones including the iPhone (4-5S), iPad, Samsung Galaxy (S3-S5) , Samsung Galaxy Note, HTC One X, etc. It is really versatile. The lightning cable for charging iPhones are not included though but that’s not really a problem for me because I already have mine.

Packaging and Contents
I particularly like its compact lipstick-like shape which makes it really easy to just pop into my bag. Of course, it is much heavier than a lipstick but it’s not too bad especially if you have a massive handbag. It comes with a smaller net pouch which you can place the charger inside so it is safe and protected and you don’t have to be fishing for it in your handbag. It also comes with its own USB cable so you can charge the device itself before it is used.

How does it work
All I do is charge the Anker Astro Mini with its USB cable which came with it and that’s all it needs as that holds more than full charge for my phone. Charging it does take a while but it’s all worth it when you are enjoying your phone with its charge. I usually charge it overnight because I get back in the evening from work and it is still charging when I am off to bed. It has a light indicator which turns orange/yellow when it is being charged and green when it is fully charged. When it’s time to charge my phone, I just connect it with my lightning cable and switch the tiny button on and it charges my phone. It actually charges it really well;  I think it’s as good as the original charger my phone came with. When I am done, it automatically switches itself off which is really handy and it also does the same if the phone gets disconnected so you don’t have to worry about its charge being wasted.

I am really impressed with this little device and it has really helped me and my phone a lot. I even use it to charge my iPad and it is still able to charge both of them really well. If it is fully charged, it can  fully charge an iPhone at least twice a day (based on my experience) and I think that’s really amazing. Of course, if you are using your phone at the same time as you are charging it, then it may not be as fast as you would expect. I honestly don’t know why it has taken me so long to buy it. It was only £14 and it is one of the best £14 I have ever spent for real!! You can purchase it here on Amazon  That’s the weekender folks and see you in my next post..x

RAVPower Luster 3000mAh Gold Lipstick Charger Review

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack power bank

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack power bank

I was recently contacted by the lovely team at RAV Power to ask if I was willing to try out their new Luster Gold Lipstick Charger*and I said yes because it looked very pretty and I was keen to see how it compared with the Anker one which I had previouslyreviewed here.

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack Power Bank

RAVPower 3000mAh External Battery Charger Pack Power Bank

The packaging of any product, even if it is not a beauty item, just makes me happy and it makes me feel like the manufacturers actually care about their customers. It has an outer packaging which shows what product you receive, the colour and the specs. Inside the packaging, it has the warranty card, some instruction of use and other details about the product. Apart from the paper work, you also get a cable for charging it, the power pack itself and a clip which is a lovely touch especially for guys who don’t carry bags.
Luster Gold Lipstick Power Pack
Don’t you just love how attractive it looks? It’s just really pretty. There are other colours as well so if you are not a gold-y girl or guy, then you can choose from a selection of black, pink, blue, etc. I prefer the gold colour because it really stands out.
It has a capacity of 3000 mAH and an output DC of 5V/1A. It is really compact with a height of 4.33 inches and a width of 0.9 inches. Its weight is 2.57 oz which is pretty portable and it won’t weigh down your wallet or purse although it is described as a lipstick charger, it is definitely heavier than a lipstick. According to RAVPower, its external battery is LG grade A cell with premium chips to ensure consistent high quality.

What phones/devices are compatible?
It is compatible with virtually any device that uses a USB cable which is very handy. It works on all generations of the iPhone and iPads although you need to have your lightning cable as the USB cable attached will not work on it.  Other devices include HTC: One X, S, V/Sensation XE XL/EVO 4G/Radar 4G/Inspire 4G/ ThunderBolt  Samsung: Galaxy S4/S3/Note 3/Note 2/S2 /Nexus/Galaxy Note/Focus S/Infuse Google: Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Google glass Motorola: Droid Razr, Bionic/Atrix 2/riumph – Other cell phone, MP3, MP4, digital camera, and other with DC 5V input.
How does it work?
It works in a pretty straightforward way. When it is charging,  it shows a red light and once it is fully charged,  it shows a blue light.  Once it is fully charged, you attach your device and it charges it straight up. If you take off your phone, it automatically stops charging so you don’t have to worry about wasting the charge which is really good because many times I just take my phone off in a
What else does it offer?
This is where things get as little more interesting. Would you believe this also doubles as a flash light? I know, I was surprised and the light that comes off this little device is really bright. It’s almost unbelievable! It has a small button to switch on the flash light and it has 3 settings. If press the button once, you get a bright consistent light which can act like a torch light, press the button twice, you get a dimmer light which is ideal if you hate sleeping in the dark and press it thrice, you get a strobe light which can also double as a disco light…I kid, I kid!! This means you can take this with you for camping, riding a bike at night and going to dark places and that’s really I think cool.

Comparison with Anker similar model
I thought it would be interesting to compare the RAV Power model with the Anker one. They are very similar as expected but theRAV Power one is slightly longer but weighs about the same. Of course, the added flash light gives it an edge over the Anker model. However, in terms of lasting power, I think I prefer the RAV Power model because it takes a shorter to time to charge and holds a good charge for my phone as well which is why it is my go-to power bank. I still love my Anker model but I find myself reaching for the RAV power model more these days for all the above reasons.

It is sold on Amazon which is brilliant so you can read other reviews on there by people who have purchased it. Also, it is sold both in the UK and USA and I believe they ship to other places. If you are in the UK, you can purchase it for $19.99 here on Amazon and if you live in the UK, you can purchase it on offer for £10.99 on Amazon UK. I think it’s an absolute bargain for the quality you get especially with free delivery on Amazon UK. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about this device but I have listed a few things which you may want to be aware of.

1  1. When you use the clip, there may be some scratches if you are not very careful.
2  2. It is slightly longer than the other power packs.
Personal thoughts

I have to say that I really like this charger because it charges my phone throughout when I am at work and that’s for a period of 8 hours which I think is brilliant. I only have to charge it in the evenings when I get home and it does not take long to charge which is even more brilliant! I particularly like the added flash light feature because it makes it a really practical device which can be used in a variety of situations and it shows that the folks at RAVPower took extra time to think about a product that will stand out against the other power banks that have flooded the market.  The clip which is attached makes it suitable for guys as well who are always on the move and it means you can never forget it as it’s clipped to your clothing. See you in my next post…x

*PR Samples: I was kindly sent this product for review but all opinions are mine as always!
